Summary:
Finals right around the corner? Sounds like it is a good time for a caffeine "pick me up". These door decs are very simple to make and don't take many materials to create them. The cardboard sleeves can be donated from a local coffee shop and although we used foam on our example to create a stronger door dec, printer paper can be used just as easily too to keep the costs down. This door dec can be used for any building and since it can be duplicated easily, it is perfect for a larger building.
Around October and November, pumpkin spice drinks are all the rage and many students are running to their local coffee shop to enjoy this beverage. With finals and midterms around this time, however, there are some students who over-rely on these drinks and try to substitute sleep with coffee to get some extra "cram-time" of studying. With these coffee door decs, we would recommend programming around the effects of caffeine on the body and how to manage your time properly to ensure you have enough time to sleep. This program can be easily partnered with counseling services, faculty members, tutoring services, or even representatives from the local coffee shop who could bring possible discounts/free samples to the students attending the program. Especially when the weather starts to get colder, nothing will warm you up quicker than a cup of joe!
Other lessons you can incorporate in your programming may include:
- Read a latte- Book Club
- Together we make a perfect blend- Community Building
- Bon Appe-tea- Stress Relief with a cup of tea
- Espresso Yourself- Self Reflection
-Rethink the Drink- Alcohol Edu/Nutrition
- A latte about your RA- Meet your RA
